Nicole and Skyler's Cozy Cabin

Tucked amongst the aspens outside of Heber, this charming cabin is a beautiful blend of updates, design-forward finishes, and original charm. See the photos and words below for a few more reasons the owners are so smitten with this spot...

What's your very favorite feature of the cabin? Tell us why.

We really enjoy the wall of windows that extend from the first to the second floor of the cabin. The window light and views of the 100-year-old fir trees and quaking aspens towering behind the deck draw us inward from the cozy entrance. Getting to sit by the warm fire while watching snow fall behind the glass panes is a favorite pastime.

Any favorite memories in the house? Or things you hope to do here that will become memories?

There’s a little trail in the woods behind the cabin that leads to a creek. Our kids helped clear and maintain the old trail and sunning spot so that they could carry down their colorful ring floaties, careful not to poke any holes in the sides with sticks or raspberry branches. The memories we spent this summer, with our children playing and relaxing in the cool water, will always be treasured.

What's your collaborative design process as a couple?

As a couple, we’re not afraid to pull up our sleeves and dig into projects ourselves. Since this is our second home, we wanted to keep any updates fairly simple, yet impactful. We both fell in love with the warmth of the wooded walls and easy layout of the cabin, so our design focus became more about pulling back from busy colors and accessories, and adding earthy textures and layers.
