Home Sweet Homeworks: It's a Hardrock Life

This charming home, perched on Hardrock Circle in Taylorsville, belongs to our client Abbi, a community-minded human who has happily hosted many a gathering inside. It's mid-century in style—think cozy, Ron Molen vibes—and offers the sort of details that make for a unique property (we're nothing short of obsessed with the fireplace you see below). It's a home that lends itself readily to evenings with loved ones...a space that feels distinctly welcoming, due in part to the architectural style, but also a direct reflection of the person inside. We stopped by for a meal with Abbi and friends and had a brief chat with her about those things she'll miss most about the house.

"I love to host and it’s the perfect setup for getting together."

Do you have a design process? What's your approach to making a space feel uniquely yours?

I wanted my furniture to match the general vibe of the architecture which, to me, was a mix of mid-century, as well as bohemian, which came around when the house was built. I used both mid-century style as well as some fun, more boho pieces.

And how about your very favorite feature of the home? Tell us about it.

Oh, the loft-style kitchen above the living room. I love that there is a big, open banister that separates the kitchen from the living room, rather than a wall. It allows for socializing, especially when I have big groups of friends over. I love to host and it’s the perfect setup for getting together. Plus, it is so open and airy.

Any favorite memories in the house? Or things you hope to do here that will become memories?

A favorite will always be my first “Soup Night.” Back in the winter of 2023, I started hosting a weekly soup night that was open invite to all my friends and connections. People could come and go as they pleased, knowing there would be soup, bread, and community waiting for them. The first soup night was filled with friends, family, friends of friends, etc. We had a toasted pumpkin bisque, seemingly endless sides that others provided, and so much laughter.
