This series is meant to give our readers a peek into some of the different homes and inhabitants we appreciate over at Homeworks (hint: it’s all kinds of both). In short, Home Sweet Homeworks showcases a few of the people we know and the places they call home (and who doesn’t love snooping on a good interior?).

Ross & Chloe's Millcreek Midcentury Modern Home + Decor

Hw: What's your very favorite feature of the home? Tell us why.

R&C: The back of the living area was covered in glass when we bought the house. We turned every glass wall in this area into huge sliding glass doors, which open onto a redwood deck that wraps around the back of the house. Behind us is Millcreek and a scrub oak forest, so even though it's all glass, it feels private. In the warmer months, we open all of the doors and our living area expands into the outside, and you get this beautiful cross breeze through the home.

Hw: Any favorite memories in the house? Or things you hope to do here that will become memories?

R&C: So many things. We've only been here for two years, but it feels like a lifetime. There are tough memories we now look back on fondly, like the three months we spent living in our travel trailer in the driveway while the house was gutted. Chloe and I, our one-year-old daughter, two cats, and a dog all squeezed into the trailer. It was tight, but I cherish the memory of that time. Or perhaps it is our daughter Millie the day we moved in. She was used to our tiny city lot at our old house and was elated to have space to run around. She was running about the backyard uncontrollably giggling and saying "Millie run fast!".

Our family has grown since we bought the house, and the next phase for this project is an addition to give us and our children more space so we can more comfortably host family and friends. We're working with Imbue Design to create an addition that adds to the architecture of the home and does not compete with it. We love architecture, design, and build/reno projects, so we're more than happy to have this addition to keep our hands busy.

Hw: What's your collaborative design process as a couple?

R&C: As a couple, we're typically very in sync on design. A few years ago we had a "design-center" appointment to choose finishes for a condo. We were told to expect two hours for the appointment. I think we were out of there in thirty minutes because we immediately had the same finish choices. The designer didn't know what to think of us.

We tend to gravitate towards bold design, and always try to look at the design from a timeless approach instead of following trends. Quality is important to us. Looking at our home, people might think we're really into mid-century modern. While we love all things MCM, we feel that any design style can be great if it is done well and right for the space.
