Home Sweet Homeworks: Panorama Circle Perfection

Writer's picture: Candace FiteCandace Fite

Tucked in among the likes of scenic Eden, Nordic Valley Ski Resort, Huntsville, and Pineview Reservoir, you'll find Panorama Circle...home to some properties with unparalleled access to back-country skiing and mountain biking, and some absolutely incredible views.

The property below—home to our clients—was a labor of love, to say the least. Thoughtful, roomy, and modern with some whimsical touches that lend themselves perfectly to a cozy and comfortable space for all, 2324 Panorama Circle is brimming with life. We chatted a bit with owner, Luke, about the build process, a few of the standout features of the home, and a few things he and his family will miss the most....

"We always wanted a property that would blend into nature."

Let's talk through the design process a little bit...tell us all about the property and what led to the decisions you made throughout.

I knew that I wanted something that was low maintenance, and energy efficient. We didn’t want a large yard to have to maintain, so that is why we have left it naturally landscaped. It fits into nature much better this way, and we don’t have to use any chemicals to maintain a yard, and wastewater, etc. I wanted to spend my time playing in the mountains rather than having a high maintenance property.

We also always wanted a property that would blend into nature. We loved the sloped roof styles which gave it a mountain modern look. We used Creations West Design which was located out in Clearfield. I used some free home design plans and worked with them to find a plan that fit our design needs. Several revisions later and we had our final plans to start building.

We wanted a home that would be efficient from solar gain. The home is positioned perfectly so that we are gaining the most from the Southern exposure for 3rd level windows, and the solar panels. I used Google Earth to orient the house to maximize the solar gain through all the seasons.

We used Solitude Builders—they built a house in our neighborhood the year before and we'd seen that they did a good job and knew the area. The owner is Carson Young, someone I went to grade school with here in the Valley. He allowed me to do a lot of sweat equity work. I was working at Parker Hannifin at the time as a Manufacturing Engineer. I would wake up at 4:30am every morning, work a full time position, then get off at 2:30pm and head up here to the house to work. I did this during the full 7-month build process—all the cleanup, tile work, kitchen installation, fixture installation, etc.

How about a few of your favorite memories made here...

We have so many memories raising our daughters in this house in their younger years. We love to go and play in the snow—sledding, snowshoeing, and skiing. On big snow years, the kids used to love for me to chuck them into the snow...they would disappear, and I would come save them. We always loved to go on walks around Panorama as a family. And I've loved being able to mountain bike and back-country ski right from the house!!

What about the standout features of the property you'll miss most?

I have a few favorite features of the home...

  1. I love having the 3rd car garage. It's sectioned off from the main 2-car garage, and I have a lot more storage on the wall. It feels like I have my own separate man cave area.

  2. I also love having my office out in the 3rd-car garage area. It's super quiet and it has a great southern view out the window.

  3. Another favorite feature of the home is the huge master bedroom, which comes with an amazing view of the valley and Powder Mountain.
